BROWN ANOLE

Brown Anole diet consists of various insects including grasshoppers, cockroaches, spiders, crickets, wax worms and mealworms. Populations living near water feed on arthropods and small fishes as well.

LIFE CYCLE:Mating takes place during the warmer months between late spring and early summer. The female lays eggs several times within a single year with each clutch containing 1 or 2 eggs. The hatchlings start eating 3 days after their birth. The young lizards leave their parents’ nest to establish their own territory shortly after hatching. They become reproductively mature at one years of age. Brown Anole is brown to grayish in colour, with a whitish or yellowish patterning on the back. Males generally have an orange or red throat fan with a white edge. They can grow anywhere between 12cms to 21cms in length. The males are generally larger than the females. Males weigh between 6gms to 8gms, while the females are generally between3gms to 4gms in weight. Average lifespan of this species is 3 to 4 years.
